Do I need my insurance certificate to tax my car?

From December 2013 the insurance check is no longer part of the vehicle taxing process. However you may need your insurance certificate if you're planning to tax your car at the Post Office. It is also possible to tax your vehicle either online at www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc or by phoning the DVLA directly on 0300 123 4321. If you've recently taken out a new insurance policy, just purchased your car or have a new MOT you may not be able to use the online process.

From 1 October 2014, you no longer have to display the paper tax disc on a vehicle windscreen. You are still required to pay vehicle tax which the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will hold an electronic copy of on file.

If you require a paper copy of your certificate, this can be printed from your MyDocs account or you can add paper documents to your policy by calling our UK Call Centre on 0330 102 2133. Lines are open 8am – 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 5pm on Saturdays.

Does my policy cover me for using or driving any other car?

Our policy will cover your car as shown on your Certificate of Motor Insurance or Temporary Cover Note on a Comprehensive basis.

If you require cover for Driving Other Cars you can add this to your policy. This gives you the benefit of third party cover whilst driving cars owned by someone else, with the owner's permission and providing this car is also insured.

Please note: Driving Other Cars applies to the policy holder only, who must be 25 or over, and not the main driver, rated driver or any other named driver. Driving other cars will not cover you for any damage or loss to the car itself. The cost of adding this to your policy is calculated on the main driver on the policy.

For more information about Driving Other Cars, please click the link. To add this to your policy, please call our UK Call Centre on 0344 854 1780. Lines are open 8am – 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 5pm on Saturdays.
